Monday, October 13, 2014 - 08:45

Work preparing the way for the actual beginning of construction will start on the Kalasatama Centre, i.e. REDI, site. The preparatory work includes, among other things, small-scale earth construction work and excavations around the metro bridge.

Site activity will expand and actual construction of REDI will start when a joint venture company with the shopping centre’s investor group is formed, which is estimated to take place during October-November.

In connection with the large-scale start-up of the site, a timetable for the introduction of temporary traffic arrangements will be confirmed.

Work beginning in October 2014

Small-scale earth construction and excavation work will take place on the REDI site from the beginning of October. Work on the site will be done within restrictions outlined in decision HEL 2011-000817 (T 11 01 00 02) of the City of Helsinki Environment Centre.

Impact on the environment: The preparatory work will have no impact on metro and other traffic. Noise will be measured and the results reported in accordance with the Ministry of the Environment’s guideline 1/1995 “Measurement of noise”. In excavation work and transportation of rock waste, every effort will be made to minimise dust formation, and dust collection equipment will be used in the vicinity of sensitive objects. The impact of excavation work will be measured with continuous vibration measurements. In the area of influence of excavation work, a review of neighbouring properties will be carried out before excavation begins, with the aim of monitoring the impact of the work. The review of neighbouring properties will be carried out by Kalliotekniikka Oy.
